1   Application and Features

Type CB22 Gas Mask is a kind of respiratory protective equipment designed for the military joint service. It is used to provide effective protection to the wearer’s face, eye, and respiratory organs against the toxic agents and radioactivity when suffering the chemical attack or acting on duty in the toxic, radioactive contaminated areas. But it is forbidden for the masks to be used in the environments of anoxic and carbon monoxide.

The face seal of the mask is treated specially an arc shape with periphery turned inwards, in order to wear comfortable and leak-free fit. It has an excellent feature of the resistance to the penetration of agents and the decontamination. There is a cam shape around the outside edge of the face blank, which can be matched with a hood.

Six head harnesses can be adjusted at random, but the flexibility of the face piece must be suitable.

Two rounded eyepieces can be matched with the optical equipment. The lenses are manufactured from optical plastic and surface-treated with a wearable coating, and provide excellent optical properties and good abrasion and shock resistance.

The communication system of masks are designed in a form of double voicemitters, the main voicemitter, exhalation valve, and drinking device are  designed as one body. The exhalation valve is easy to remove so that it can be cleaned. The drinking device can be operated easily. The main voicemitter has less loss of voice transferring.

The aide voicemitter is fit on the right cheek of the masks, and can be matched with communication equipments.

The nosecup with two inhalation valves is fit in the face piece, and has a good transparency.

The canister is filled with impregnated carbon of good quality and high efficiency filter paper and can filter out toxic gases and particulate aerosol from the influent air except carbon monoxide. The canister has a low resistance, lightweight and service life.

USAGE AND MAINTENANCE

3.1   The CB22 Gas Mask is divided into three sizes such as small, medium and large on the left lower part of the faceblank respectively with one of three  numbers: 1(small), 2(medium) or 3(large). The users can choose a suitable mask according to their head shape. The method is to measure the distances in the horizontal central line between the wearer’s chin and the central point between the inner canthus, then the size of masks can be determined according to the actual data of 1, 2, 3.

3.2   After the mask has being worn, plug up the inlet of a canister with a hand, then, make an inspiration hard, if there is any leakage on the mask, a mask, which is one size smaller, should be instead of it.

3.3   Usage of drinking device: The cap of a special canteen should be screwed previously in the canteen. When the wearer needs to drink water, one hand should keep the mask steadily, the middle finger of another hand should take the plug of drinking tube out, then turn the handle anticlockwise to 180°with right hand, grip a drinking tube inside the facepeice with mouth, hold the canteen with right hand, and pull out the plug of the canteen, insert the plug of drinking tube inside the cap of the canteen with left hand. Finally, raise up the inverted canteen near the facepiece, the height of canteen should be kept at the level of eyes, pay attention to blow the air while drinking water, in order to keep the water flowing. But the canteen must not raised too high, so as to avoid breaking off of the connecter.  After the drinking has finished, the drinking device should be resumed to its original state by means of the reverse process.

3.4   The mask is equipped with a resistance simulator, which is used to instead of a canister in the period of training. But the simulator must be removed and a canister should be assembled during the operation of poisoning and in the warfare.

3.5   The complete mask, particularly the lenses and the exhalation valve, should be kept clean. If necessary the facepiece can be washed with clear water.

3.6   The canister can decrease its adsorption capacity for toxic gases if it has absorbed the moisture. The closure cap and the plug should usually be attached to the canister to prevent the ingress of moisture.

3.7   The gas masks should be stored in a cool dry place. If the masks are not in use for a longer period of time, a support should be placed in each faceblank to prevent the deformation. The facepiece must not be contacted with organic solvent.
